Tradition and vision come together in an evolving system
The Pagano family’s roots lie in the artisan tradition of the Amalfi Coast. Vincenzo Pagano’s father and grandfather, originally from San Marzano sul Sarno, were ‘facocchi’: master craftsmen who built carts, carriages and, later, fishing boats in Cetara. A culture of woodworking and construction born of manual labour, precision and a deep connection with the material.
In the 1950s, the Pagano family’s craftsmanship grew and evolved within the world of furniture and artistic woodworking.
From the interiors of prestigious villas in Rome to the creation of unique pieces that have, over time, become sought-after works by international collectors, a culture of attention to detail, materials and craftsmanship took shape, which would go on to become part of the Pagano identity.
The first Pagano-designed chalet, built from chestnut timber, has been completed on the outskirts of Rome.
An example of traditional timber carpentry that remains a structure and a venue of interest to this day.
One of the first Pagano houses in Abruzzo was built in Oricola. Oricola is still home to the company’s production offices today.
The first major Pagano projects were realised at the new facility in Arsoli, including the home of the maestro Ennio Morricone.
Late 1960s / early 1970s
the villages
The aesthetic appeal, the speed of construction and the ability to overcome the complexities of traditional building sites led to the creation of the first Pagano villages. In just a few years, over 400 houses were built in Piani Uggi, Le Falconare and Campaegli.
Through leading national and international trade fairs, Pagano began to promote a new culture of living in timber. Thus began the journey towards a new interpretation of living in timber.
Pagano has developed the first major tourist and residential complex in Central Italy, in the Simbruini Mountains, on the outskirts of Rome but at an altitude of 1,500 metres above sea level, developing an area of over 240 hectares. Here, the prestigious chalets are clustered around the charming clubhouse and spa, which offers a full range of accommodation and sports facilities.
Pagano has opened its new operational headquarters in Rome, in a strategic location between the Grande Raccordo Anulare and Fiumicino International Airport.
The new Pagano factory has opened, one of the first facilities in Europe to cover the entire manufacturing process: from design to production, incorporating a sophisticated, state-of-the-art CAD-CAM system.
Following the opening of the new factory, Pagano has created its own showroom to showcase the brand’s identity and excellence.
Beyond the borders
In Florida, Pagano has designed a home set amidst nature, characterised by large windows and a strong interplay between the interior and exterior.
The Pagano family are building their private residence in Trigoria. A project that epitomises the brand, serving as a venue for architectural experimentation and a meeting place for international figures.
In New York City, Pagano has created a large villa with a design that is unique in the brand’s history.
Pagano is building its first off-site assembly plant in Angola, developing shopping centres and residential properties using a highly industrialised construction system.
The Soviet Union’s Minister for Forestry has proposed a joint venture to Pagano for the production of wooden houses in Russia.
The 1990s
A new generation
Andrea and Enzo Pagano, the sons of Vincenzo Pagano, join the company. The first patents are filed, laying the foundations for the Pagano System.
In Austria, Pagano reinterprets the traditional Alpine chalet through a new, contemporary architectural vision.
Pagano presents “Il Capanno”: a self-sufficient 40-square-metre dwelling equipped with solar panels, a wind turbine and water-recovery systems.
Pagano has created one of the capital’s most innovative retail developments for Unieuro, establishing the city’s leading megastore.
On the outskirts of Rome, at the major motorway junction of the Grande Raccordo Anulare, EMU – a leading name in the outdoor sector – is opening its glass-fronted showroom.
Pagano creates a barrier-free home by integrating advanced home automation systems and wireless technologies.
Pagano built a residence covering over 4,000 square metres, complete with a spa, swimming pools and cinema rooms, which was completed in just nine months. In the years that followed, this record was surpassed by a new development designed by Pagano, which covered over 5,000 square metres.
The Pagan System around the world
In collaboration with Totan Kuzembaev, Pagano has designed a residence set within the Pirogovo Golf Club, near Moscow.
Oricola’s new production plant has opened, serving as a model of integrated industry and energy self-sufficiency. It is a state-of-the-art, patented facility, designed to manage every stage of the production process in-house.
In Rome, Pagano is building a Pagano-branded business centre with over 70 offices designed in accordance with the principles of bioclimatic design and environmental comfort.
Pagano continues to build large residential properties of over 5,000 square metres, completing them in record time. The experience it has gained in the hotel and resort sector enables the company to develop complex masterplans quickly and efficiently, involving the siting of multiple buildings within a single site.
Set amongst the hills near Rimini, a private villa has been built, blending seamlessly into the landscape and exemplifying Pagano’s contemporary approach.
Pagano is building a villa on Lake Orta in record time, on a challenging plot of land with panoramic views. This project has also given rise to a documentary dedicated to the Pagano Building System.
Pagano is building new private residences on the shores of Lake Geneva and in the Zurich area, thereby strengthening its international presence.
